Stacked Wonky is a contemporary dance company led by Artistic Director, Sarah Shorten, buoyed up and inspired by a very strong group of performers, designers, musicians, mentors and makers of all sorts. Over the past 10 years it has been quietly making work/commissions for unusual places – Trafalgar Square, Clovelly Court Estate, Museum of Childhood etc, resurfacing in 2015 with “Liberator”, a box-set of four site episodes performed in the Vale of Porlock to critical acclaim.
“Anarchic and exuberant, the movement she creates is beautiful” say Time Out.
Sarah has been supported by various organisations, such as Arts Council England, Greenwich & Docklands International Festival and Dance South West, but has also sought independence to test ideas free of constraint.
The company has a natural draw towards site work, a love of presence and wish to engage with audiences in close proximity. Increasingly, it is developing a way of intermingling professionals and skilled child performers to broaden the possibilities of what can be seen and felt in site-specific work.
